Ouran Academy was a school filled with extravagance. It was a breath-taking building with many expensive decorations adorning it's inner and outer walls. For someone who had grown up going to a school where the wall decorations could be recognized as a "Two-for-one" special in the dollar store, it was unbelievable. It seemed as if one could fall into a hole of debt just by chipping the wood on a desk. Talk about "you break it, you buy it?" The most unbelievable part was that the majority of the students seemed very used to it. Obviously, this environment was very usual to about ninety-nine percent of the student body.
Katsuya sighed, walking out the front door of the school. The day had finally ended. She was dying of heat, of course, but that was better than being cold, right? Well, either way she could breathe right now, so it was all fine in her eyes. Still, she wanted a way to keep cool and relax a bit before going home to hear Chi babble on, asking her how her day was and other trivial questions. She had enough of a headache from the after-school chattering that the students made sure to provide.
According to her sisterly, yet brotherly at the same time, co-worker, she was a rather dull person when in a school environment. He used to come pick her up at her old public school. Now, he said that Ouran was too overwhelming for him to go get her. It was weird, but hey--that was Chi for you. Since he found the school too mind-boggling for him to go pick her up, he was sure she was even more of a wall flower than before. Though she would never admit it to him, he was right about that.
Since coming to this elite academy, her grades began to rise and her social life (school-wise at least) became pretty much non-existent. She had her job at the cafe. There were enough people to deal with there. It wasn't as if she was *totally* secluding herself from others. It was just the fact that...well...she didn't want to have to deal with the commentary of random people who didn't quite know her.
A small smile crept it's way onto her face as she saw the large outdoor fountain. That would be a good place to cool off a bit. Still with her large winter-coat on, she shuffled down to where the fountain made its place on campus. She sat down on the edge, allowing the mist from the falling water to catch her in it's path. It felt kind of nice. The experience over-all was pretty relaxing.
Large, old-fashioned glasses still adorned her face. They helped her see long distance, but not much more. However, they did play a crucial part in helping her read whatever notes were on the board. Her hair was pulled up as well. This was not a fashion statement or anything. She simply found it most convenient in the morning to just pull her hair back and move on to more important things rather than standing in front of the mirror for an extended period of time. According to many people, she looked like a boy--they had mistaken her for such, anyway. Chi said that her face was always feminine, but she just didn't put enough time into her appearance.
Not only that, but under her jacket, she insisted on wearing the boy's uniform for two reasons. The first reason was that she liked the feel and look of the boy's uniform better. The pants were comfortable and she was able to move freely in them. They made good dress pants. Not only that, but the boy's uniform jacket was a very pretty shade of blue. When compared to the yellow of the girl's uniform, it wasn't a hard choice. The other reason was that she simply did not like wearing skirts. She never had, and probably would never in the future.
Oh well. She couldn't be the only person to ever be mistaken for the wrong gender.
Still sitting on the edge of the fountain, she closed her eyes, just allowing herself to relax and enjoy the moment. No reason to be on edge, no reason to pay attention to anything. Just the quiet rush of the water and the tickle of the spray hitting the back of her neck. In Ouran Academy, there were many beautiful things. This rare moment of complete tranquility had to be one of them.
